Attachment theory has given us the basis to understanding why people remain in unwanted relationship and situations. The research findings on Disorganised attachment status has further expand our understanding, explaining how in some case the parent is both the source of comfort and fright for the young child. In this presentation I would discuss a client who was severely abused as a child and who had DID. Her attachment to her mother remain problematic and impacted on our therapeutic journey. I will tell the story of A and how the secure base offered in therapy helped her overcome her terror states, her dissociation and relationship difficulties.
